After my sister’s marriage, I, following the huge pressure to get a job from my family, dropped down to Ernakulam to meet editor of newly launched English daily in Kerala. That was the Devastated day, at least for me, as I met one of the worst day, I ever had in my life.
Newspaper’s office is located in a partially finished shopping complex. Based on the instruction from the ex-chief, I entered the office, a well furnished corporate office. Its simple and awesome.
I waited for nearly half an hour.
Meanwhile, a person came in between. Introduced himself as X, and he knows me.
A shake hand and a self introduction.
Are you Mr.aaaaa.
I said yes.
Don’t you remember I was there in calicut and met you couple of time when you came to meet your old friends?
I said ya. I remember
Meanwhile I met another person.
Dressed in branded outlook, he was just rushing in to the office
I recognized him, the same one, who was with the newspaper which is having its base in Chennai.
Another shake hand and yes my mind was shaking as the editor of the news paper is the one with whom I had a small fight.
A flash back: @ the best regional English newspaper in Kerala
My letter (resignation letter) addressed the editor and general manager was in a very usual manner
But the way I quit the newspaper was quiet unusual
In fact my salary was cut downed for the reason that I used the landline for my personal purpose
(and yes, I called up my girl friend several times. Result: the bill got shoot up)
I rang up my senior: “what shall I do”
When do you want to join in Bangalore?
I said, day after tomorrow
Then move on
They traced the number and they traced me…. Rumors were that I was on a run….
@ The newly launched newspaper’s office
I just entered the cabin and he welcomed me with a sentence
“If I would have recognized you’re when you called me, I would not have asked you to come over here”
Is he an editor of a news paper. Or he owns the newspaper where he could take revenge?
What makes me wonder is that he still keeps the thing in his mind.
I said, yes, I regret what had happened in the past. I was impulsive at that point of time that made to move out of the organization where we were working
Editor: Later you called up everyone and asked now he is not there, shall I apply
I wondered. After all it is my life. And I consider life is a business. There are no permanent friends and rivals
Editor: Anyway there is no chance.
Editor: Once the trust is over, it is over. We cannot do the patch work on relationship
Me: Is there any chance to work together once again
Editor: Remember how you ran away from the office. You just shut down the office and move… Didn’t even think about the journalism ethics
Editor: No chance
The interview over
Traveling down to the other news paper, I was just thinking how small he is as an individual and he is teaching me journalism ethics
I remember the incident. A senior reporter, who got a job in the same newspaper’s north Indian version, he informed the editor (the same one who interviewed me) that he is resigning. Next day the shock came, the senior reporter was terminated.
And the bugger is teaching me journalism ethics.
Crap…
